Benefits of Colloidal Silver for Pets (& How to Find the Right One)

by | Nov 3, 2022 | Remedies

Colloidal silver for pets is well known and well loved by many pet parents. Its anti-viral, anti-fungal, natural antibiotic, and anti-microbial properties make it a go-to in many first aid kits. We’ve often heard, “when ‘this’ happens (whatever ‘this’ may be), I reach for my bottle of colloidal silver.” Some might even look at it as the “windex” from My Big Fat Greek Wedding!

Now, we know that sometimes colloidal silver can be controversial. We recognize that there are issues with seeing it as a “cure-all” (we don’t), and that hoping for miraculous results is problematic. But that doesn’t negate the fact that science proves it can have some pretty darn impressive impacts, especially when it comes to healing.

So, what exactly is colloidal silver, what’s its safety profile, and how can you use it for your animals? And, how can you source out the best, most effective, product on the market?

What is Colloidal Silver?

Colloidal silver is a solution that contains tiny silver particles suspended in liquid, usually deionized water.

It’s negatively charged, so it interacts with harmful, positively charged bacteria, disrupting their function. It stops them from receiving enzymes and oxygen, thereby killing them, and stopping them from harming (or causing further harm) to the body.

But that’s not all! Once these initial bacteria are killed off, that dead bacteria may be able to go on to kill surviving pathogens. Scientists calls this the “the zombie effect.” Research shows that the antibacterial silver ions in colloidal silver bind to essential cell components, preventing lingering bacteria from performing even their most basic functions.

Now, it’s really important to note that these antibacterial properties can effect good AND bad bacteria – so that needs to be addressed! It’s actually one of the reasons we haven’t had a colloidal silver product until now. But don’t worry – we’ll get there, so keep reading.

How to Find the Best Colloidal Silver for Pets

Before we get to the benefits, there are a few important things to note when it comes to finding the right colloidal silver for pets.

Firstly, as we mentioned above, because of its antibacterial properties, most colloidal silvers don’t just target the bad bacteria. In killing the bad, they can also destroy the good – similar to how an antibiotic would.

And that’s a major issue. It’s one that definitely doesn’t adhere to the Adored Beast philosophy.

In fact, when we decided to look at bringing you colloidal silver, this was our biggest problem. We’d never want to do anything to destroy the good bacteria in the body – no matter the other benefits.

So we found a solution: SilverSol technology.

This technology removes an electron from the silver. But it wants that missing electron, and the easiest place to find it is a pathogen! So it searches them out! In this way, it targets the bad bacteria, but leaves the friendly bacteria alone. This makes it more effective at lower ppm.

But it goes beyond that.

Next, we use Molecular Resonance Effect Technology (MRET) activated deionized water. This technology takes the water molecule, which is normally triangular in shape, and makes it flat and linear.

This matters because, when in its triangular shape, it’s much harder for that molecule to pass into the teeny tiny opening in the cell membrane. When it becomes linear, it can pass right into the cell. This makes it exponentially more effective.

Why is ours only 10 parts pet million (ppm) you might ask? Because of the technology we use, the structure of our colloidal silver becomes linear, As a result, our tests show that it is effective at only 5 ppm. We made ours 10 ppm to account for any new and/or different variants of viruses or bacteria (we’re always thinking ahead)!

Furthermore, when shopping for colloidal silver, make sure you don’t mistakenly buy ionic silver. This isn’t actually colloidal silver because it does not contain silver particles. Many products marketed as colloidal silver are actually ionic. This is because ionic silver requires a low degree of production complexity and tends to cost less.

Read those labels carefully!

BONUS: There’s some concern about silver in the water, and the detrimental impact it can have on our aquatic life. An added benefit (and an absolute necessity for us) is that our Colloidal SilverSol is absolutely safe for aquatic life. If it didn’t have this benefit, we wouldn’t have touched it!

Using Colloidal Silver for Pets

As mentioned, colloidal silver works in harmony with the body’s cells and tissues, making it effective as an antiviral, antimicrobial, and antibacterial treatment.

And that makes it useful for a number of different uses.

When used topically, colloidal silver may help with:

  • skin infections
  • ear infections
  • eye infections
  • cuts and scrapes
  • burns
  • itching and inflammation

It promotes healing, cutting down on infections.

When using it for any of these issues, spray it directly on the area, or apply a small amount to a cotton gauze pad and apply to the skin (no cotton balls please – the fine fibres can get stuck to the wound). Try not to let your pet lick it off – you want it to be able to soak in and do its job.

When used internally, colloidal silver can work to kill pathogenic bacteria in the body, stopping it in its tracks. This includes viruses and fungi. Its potent anti-microbial, anti-bacterial properties target harmful bacteria. Thanks to this, it can be incredibly useful for dealing with things like yeast overgrowth, UTIs, oral health issues, really any time there is cause or concern of infection.

It’s also a potent anti-inflammatory. In this way, it is a useful addition post-surgery, or for injuries, when infection is a concern. It can even be beneficial for upper respiratory issues – just spray it around your animal and let them inhale it.

Additionally, colloidal silver works to enhance the immune system. This can be a really important additional support for things like cancer. When the immune system is weakened, it becomes more vulnerable to threats like viruses and bacteria. By giving the immune system a boost, your animal is better able to defend against attack. You’re also helping the body to draw out some of the heavy metals and toxins that build up – both environmental and those related to treatment.

**NOTE: Because colloidal silver helps to flush out toxins, you want to make sure your pet has access to plenty of fresh water when giving it internally.

You can also use it as a natural disinfectant for toys, beds, and bowls. You can spray it directly onto the surface, letting it soak in and dry, or dilute it if you like.

Colloidal silver can play a beneficial role in healing our animals naturally, just be sure you’re keeping safety in mind, and buying the right product!
