Celebrating a Decade of Adored Beast Apothecary

by | Oct 28, 2025 | Animal Wisdom

This year we celebrate 10 years! I can’t even believe I’m writing this. Time sure does fly…

It’s been 10 incredible years of groundbreaking research and development, of learning and growing our understanding, and of helping as many adored beasts as we possibly can!

We are so proud to have reached this milestone, with many achievements in the books. And we are so honoured and grateful to have shared this journey with you and thousands of other pet parents around the world.

Please join us for a look back at where Adored Beast began and where we’re going in the future.

How it All Started…

On a chilly spring morning in 2015 in rural Nova Scotia, two strangers met for coffee and changed the future of pet wellness.

Julie Anne Lee, DCH RCSHom, had spent decades running integrative holistic veterinary hospitals in British Columbia, the first of their kind in Canada, treating animals with all-natural formulas developed and tested in those clinics. Julie’s dream was to help pet parents who didn’t have access to holistic vets improve their animals’ health by bringing her formulas to the market. Dione Albert had built a reputation as a logistics expert in the pet-supply world, the kind of person who could turn vision into a viable product.

And on that morning in that small coffee shop, something big happened… Adored Beast Apothecary was born!

Those early days were hectic. Julie handled formulas, marketing, and shipping from a small storefront in Windsor, Nova Scotia. Dione managed the manufacturers, inventory logistics, and labelling from his basement. But things happened pretty fast.

Today, we’ve grown to a team of more than forty people across Canada and the U.S. and we’re recognized as a pioneer in holistic pet supplements and animal cancer research. (I mean, not to toot our own horn or anything, but I can’t help it!)

Breaking Ground with “Firsts”

From the start, Adored Beast set out to challenge convention.

Julie insisted on launching something the industry had never seen: a leaky-gut protocol consisting of five coordinated supplements to help heal intestinal issues that can lead to allergies and chronic disease. At this point, very few had even heard of leaky gut syndrome, but Julie gave university lectures, wrote countless articles, and spoke at industry conferences around the world to change that.

Word spread fast through independent pet stores and online communities. Customers returned with stories and photos of dogs whose fur had grown back, whose energy had returned. With no advertising budget, the brand grew purely on proof and passion.

Over the next decade, we introduced one innovation after another:

  • The first species-specific probiotics (derived from dogs, cats, horses, even wolves)
  • Functional-only ingredient standards
  • Ground-breaking prebiotic discoveries
  • Cutting-edge mushroom-based therapies

And our long-term cancer-research partnership with Dalhousie University continues to push the boundaries of what natural medicine can do!

Growth Hasn’t Changed Us

Despite our rapid growth, the things that mattered at the beginning still influence our every day.

Julie’s rescue farm, Joseph’s Field, is both a sanctuary and an inspiration. It is home to dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, ducks… the list goes on. Every formula begins there, tested in real life with rescued animals she calls her “teachers.” “I always say that my animals have guided me to take the right path and move in the right direction,” she says. “The collaboration is with our animals, too. The intention and the spirit of the rescue farm move us into all these other directions.”

From the very beginning, a focus on earth-friendly practices, sustainability, and ethical sourcing has also driven Adored Beast’s rigorous sourcing standards. For Julie, ethics aren’t optional; they’re everything. She still recalls refusing to carry shark-cartilage supplements early in her veterinary career: “It makes no sense to torture or do anything unethical to one animal to save another animal.” “From a company that’s making a living selling natural supplements, we have an even greater responsibility and an obligation to the earth. We need to be sure that we’re protecting nature in every way.”

Collaboration, too, is part of our DNA. From microbiologists at Dalhousie to independent artists and small-batch manufacturers, Adored Beast thrives on partnerships grounded in shared values. “There’s been so much positive collaboration in ABA. And I swear it’s because it’s for such a good cause,” Julie notes.

What’s Next?

As Adored Beast enters its second decade, we’re so excited about what’s in store. We’re making big moves towards global expansion with new manufacturing facilities in North America to meet demand from Australia and the UK, and beyond. To us, this means reaching so many more animals, and that’s always been our #1 goal.

Julie, ever the visionary, is focused on the planet. “My focus is bringing products to the market that are even more balanced from a perspective of healing the planet and healing our animals.” Julie explained, “I’m excited about launching some first-to-the-market products that are much more centred and synergistically aware of our companion animals’ health and the planet’s health.”

We Couldn’t Have Done it Without YOU!

All of this is amazing, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t thank YOU! We’re so grateful to be where we are today, and we know we couldn’t have done it without you! The love and support from each and every customer, collaborator, influencer, and friend have allowed us to grow and expand, reaching those animals who matter. We’re all in this together.

Here’s to another 10+ years together!

Sharing Congratulations

The Adored Beast Apothecary has always been an incredible resource for myself, my staff, and my customers. We are lucky to have such an incredible team of caring individuals working diligently to curate a line of supplements we are confident and proud to sell. – Briana from Viva Pets in Edmonton, AB

Congratulations to Adored Beast on 10 amazing years! Your dedication to creating natural, high-quality pet supplements has made such a positive impact in the lives of pets and their people. It’s been a pleasure working with such a passionate and knowledgeable team, especially our fantastic rep, Steff, who always goes above and beyond. Wishing you continued success and many more years of helping pets thrive. – Rawsome Dogs in Woodstock, Ontario

My personal favorite story is: A customer with a senior dog came in looking for options to support cognitive health. Her dog was showing signs of dementia and was pacing around at night and acting confused. We recommended several products, including ABA Potent C Omega 3. She purchased it that day, and when she came back in, she was happy to report that the pacing and confusion had stopped. She was so relieved and has been buying it ever since. I use her testimony to recommend it to other customers with similar concerns. – Becky from Treat Play Love in Grand Forks, North Dakota

My two favorite products from Adored Beast are Gut Soothe and Positive Immunity. I’ve been told by many pet parents that these products have been life-changing. Multiple pet parents, both with dogs and cats, have told me that Gut Soothe has reversed years of chronic diarrhea or digestive issues. It is the only thing that has ever worked for some pets. I have had customers on the verge of putting a pet down, try Gut Soothe and see a complete 180. Pawsitive Immunity has also been a game changer for many pets with atopic dermatitis or seasonal allergies. Again, for many pets, it is the first thing that’s really worked. My own dog suffered from terrible seasonal allergies and always had miserable skin issues in the spring and early summer. I started her on  Pawsitive Immunity at the end of February 2025 to get ahead of the spring allergy season. We had a completely different year this year, no constant scratching and licking, no red and black patches on her belly, really just an uneventful spring and summer. What a huge difference! – Susanna from Scratch and Sniff Pet Supplies in Phoenix, Maryland.

Happy Anniversary! A customer came to the store in 2023 commenting about the black skin on her dog’s belly and that her groomer could not clean it off. We had a great conversation about nutrition and supplements. We introduced Adored Beast products and benefits for the dog. The customer purchased the Leaky Gut Protocol. The customer returned after the protocol was complete. She was really impressed with the change in the skin of her dog’s behaviour. She then purchased the Yeasty Beasty Protocol to enhance the healing process. The customer is a regular purchaser of Adored Beast products. – Donna Simpson at Natural Paws Pantry in London, ON.

Happy 10th anniversary. The work you and your team do is truly amazing, and we’re always proud to carry ABA. One amazing experience we had with your team is when my coworker had just adopted her new rescue pup Maddie. Maddie came malnourished, afraid of the world, and had skin issues. Connie spoke to one of your team members for advice on how to support Maddie. Connie put Maddie on Healthy Gut, and she gradually healed. Maddie continues to use love bugs and has go-to and oopsies in her first aid kit. She is a healthy, happy pup now, thanks to her adored beast regime. You guys are great! Have a pawsome weekend! – Elsie at Paws on Cook, in BC.

We’ve been proudly carrying Adored Beast products since 2017, and they’ve become our go-to supplements. Over time, we’ve streamlined our selection to focus on what truly delivers results — and Adored Beast consistently stands out for the effectiveness of their products and the incredible support they provide to their retailers. We always tell our customers that we work hard to find the best products so they don’t have to — and Adored Beast perfectly represents that commitment. Their integrity, innovation, and genuine care for animal health make them an essential part of what we do every day. Congratulations on 10 remarkable years! We’re proud to have been part of the journey and look forward to many more years of partnership. – Natalie Gore, Bailey Blu, Montreal, Quebec.

My favorite memory is how your Feline Gut Soothe has been a game changer for many of my customers here. They cannot believe how well it works and they are happy to have it in their go-to’s. – Cathy from Cats Kingdom, Manchester, New Hampshire.

I do have a customer story. My neighbour, who was a breeder, has since retired. One of her dogs, who was expecting her first litter, fell ill and lost all the puppies. My customer did her own research and checked out all of the ABA products. She decided she needed the liver tonic first. Not only did this make a difference, her vet also highly recommended this product and instructed my customer to keep this pup on this product. Note this pup is also on Fidos Flora which she will continue to administer as well. Dog is doing so much better. Still waiting for red blood count to reach the average levels, but thanks to the ABA products, she is still with us! I appreciate you, Julie Anne Lee, and everyone that is connected with ABA. Happy 10th anniversary! – Darinka & Ed, Caribou Paws Pet Foods in BC.
