Hey cat parents!
We don’t have any kitties in our home right now, but as I think back on the many beloved felines who shared our home over the years, some of their name make me laugh. When I was a child, I grew up with Billy, a persnickety black beast who liked no one (but loved little tiny me). Then there was Tigger, who lived up to her namesake, bouncing all over the place. We also had Jack, an affectionate little long haired fluff, calm and cozy.
How did we land on these names? I honestly can’t remember. Billy was named before I was even born, in fact.
But just as with dog names, we all know there’s a process involved in picking the perfect name.
Did you bring home a new kitty in 2023? If so, what name did you choose – and is it on the list? Today, we’re looking at what inspired some of the most popular cat names of 2023! Let’s have a little fun!

What Influenced Us This Year?
What inspired us to name our cats as we did in 2023? A lot of different things!
Just as with the pups, pop culture is a big influence! Many of our cats now share their names with our favourite celebrities: Kate, Khloe, Paris, Nelson, Amber, and Andy.
Movies and television shows also inspired some of the most popular cat names of 2023. The Barbie movie was big, with Barbie, Ken, and even Beach topping the list. And again, just as with the canines, Marvel was a big one yet again this year. Rocket, Bruce, Pepper, Storm, Peter, Tony, and Logan are right at the top. And Loki was in the top 10!
When it come to some of our other favourite things, people went for sweet treats:
- Snickers
- Twix
- Butterscotch
- Cupcake
- Mochi
- Mocha
- Oreo
- Cookie
And drinks inspired us too:
- Gin
- Whiskey
- Coffee
- Mocha
- Chai
- Boba
- Tito
- Bailey
If you’re a fan of the Royals, and named your cat after your favourite “your majesty” this year, you’re not alone. Kate, Lili, Harry, Charlotte, and Lizzie were all on the list of the most popular cat names for 2023.
Sports stars, television shows (notably Yellowstone), music, snacks, and video game characters also feature in the popular names chosen for our kitties this year.
Whatever your cat’s name may be, we know a lot went into the choosing of it. And even though we’re sure they get called many other things, that one special name chosen from the beginning is what means the most!
